PYRAMID
The original
series, The $10,000 Pyramid, debuted on March
26, 1973, and spawned seven subsequent Pyramid
series. Most later series featured a full title format
matching the original series, with the title reflecting an
increasing top prize. The game features two contestants,
each paired with a celebrity. Contestants attempt to guess a
series of words or phrases based on descriptions given to
them by their teammates. The title refers to the show's
pyramid-shaped gameboard, featuring six categories arranged
in a triangular fashion. The various Pyramid series
have won a total of nine Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Game
Show, second only to Jeopardy!, which has won 13.
Dick Clark is
the host most commonly associated with the show, having
hosted the network daytime version from 1973 to 1980 (which
increased its namesake top prize $20,000 in 1976) and
The (New) $25,000 Pyramid from 1982 to 1988 on CBS.
Clark also hosted two weeknight syndicated versions,
The $50,000 Pyramid in 1981 and The $100,000
Pyramid from 1985 to 1988 (concurrent with the
daytime show). |

CLASSIC
CONCENTRATION
In January
1987, Mark Goodson Productions sought permission from NBC to
relaunch Concentration. The new series, which became
known as Classic Concentration, debuted on NBC on May
4, 1987. Production was now done at NBC Studios in Burbank,
California. Alex Trebek (who
concurrently was also hosting
Jeopardy!) hosted and Diana Taylor was the
series' prize model. On July 22 of that year, Mark Goodson's
daughter, Marjorie Goodson-Cutt, replaced Taylor and
remained for the entire series. Gene
Wood was the announcer, with
Art James substituting for him for several weeks in
1991. The new Concentration ran once again at
10:30 am EST and remained in that slot for its entire run.
Classic Concentration's
final new episode aired on September 20, 1991, but reruns
continued to air on NBC from October 28, 1991 until December
31, 1993. |

KIDSTREET
Kidstreet
is a Canadian children's game show that aired from 1987 to
1992 and was hosted by Kevin Frank, with Kathy Morse as the

which was in production at the same time as Kidstreet
during its last season in 1991-92), who also worked as
associate producer.
Kidstreet
was produced by Blair Murdoch at CFAC/CKKX in Calgary and

later airing on America One in the United States. In the
final season, production moved to U.TV in Vancouver, where

SALE OF THE
CENTURY
Sale of the Century
(stylized as $ale of the Century) is a
television game show that originally debuted in the United
States on September 29, 1969, on NBC daytime. It was one of
three NBC game shows to premiere on that date, the other two
being the short-lived game shows Letters to Laugh-In
and Name Droppers. The series aired until July 13,
1973, and a weekly syndicated series began that fall and ran
for one season.
The rights to the show were
purchased in 1980 by Australian TV mogul Reg Grundy, who
produced a similar show called Great Temptation in
the 1970s. Grundy subsequently launched an Australian
version of Sale of the Century. Grundy's modified
format was then used in a revived American Sale of the
Century that aired on NBC from January 3, 1983 to March
24, 1989. It was one of three NBC game shows premiering on
the same date, along with Hit Man and Just Men!
(both of which aired for only 13 weeks), and—like its
predecessor—spawned a syndicated edition that ran from
January 7, 1985 to September 12, 1986. Grundy's format has
also been adopted in other countries.
The game consists of
contestants answering general knowledge questions. At
certain points during the game, the player currently in the
lead is offered an "Instant Bargain", a prize to keep
regardless of the game's outcome, in exchange for a certain
amount deducted from that contestant's score. |

THE PRICE IS
RIGHT
The
Price Is Right
is an American television game show created by Bob Stewart,
Mark Goodson and Bill Todman. The show revolves around
contestants competing by identifying accurate pricing of
merchandise to win cash and prizes. Contestants are selected
from the studio audience when the announcer states the
show's famous catchphrase, "Come on down!"
The program premiered on
September 4, 1972, on CBS. Bob Barker was the series'
longest-running host from its 1972 debut until his
retirement in June 2007, when Drew Carey took over. Barker
was accompanied by a series of announcers, beginning with
Johnny Olson, followed by Rod Roddy and then Rich Fields. In
April 2011, George Gray became the announcer. The show has
used several models, most notably Anitra Ford, Janice
Pennington, Dian Parkinson, Holly Hallstrom, and Kathleen
Bradley. While retaining some elements of the original 1956
version of the show, the 1972 version has added many new
distinctive gameplay elements. |

UH OH!
Uh
Oh! is a
Canadian television game show that was created by Rick Watts
(who also served as producer and director of the show's
first five seasons) and Frank Young. Following a sneak
preview at YTV Psykoblast on August 16, Uh Oh! aired
from August 22, 1997 to April 19, 2003 on YTV, and was a
spin-off of the popular variety show It's Alive!,
which also aired on YTV. Uh Oh! was part of It's
Alive's
game show segment during its third season, but existed as a
parody during its second season. As of 2019, Uh Oh!
is the third longest-running show on YTV, behind Hit List
and Video & Arcade Top 10, both of which aired for 14
and 15 years respectively. For its entire run, Uh Oh!
was taped at Global Television in Toronto, Ontario. The
series ended on April 19, 2003.
The game
was played with three colour-based teams that would be
battled against each other in each game. The goal of the
game was to have more points than the other two teams to
take home the grand prize. Teams would consist of two
players each and would be either Blue, Green, or Red.
Audience members would also pick sides and wear clothes of
the colour they supported. Each team member would either
spin the wheel for half of the game or participate in
whichever activity the wheel lands on. The team members
would participate in games that would nearly always involve
goo and would be silly. If won, games would provide points
for the respective team. According to the original Uh Oh!
sketch on It's Alive!, Blue went first, then Green
and Red. |

WHEEL OF
FORTUNE
Wheel of Fortune
(often known simply as Wheel) is an American
television game show created by Merv Griffin that debuted in
1975. The show features a competition in which contestants
solve word puzzles, similar to those used in hangman, to win
cash and prizes determined by spinning a giant carnival
wheel. The current version of the series, which airs in
nightly syndication, premiered on September 19, 1983. It
stars Pat Sajak and Vanna White as host and co-host. The
original version of Wheel was a daytime series on NBC
from January 6, 1975, to June 30, 1989, then on CBS from
July 17, 1989, to January 11, 1991, and again on NBC from
January 14, 1991, until it was cancelled on September 20,
1991, thereby co-existing with the nighttime version from
1983 to 1991.
The network version was
originally hosted by Chuck Woolery and Susan Stafford.
Woolery left in 1981, and was replaced by Sajak. Sajak left
the network version in January 1989 to host his own
late-night talk show, while remaining as host of the
nighttime Wheel. Sajak was replaced in daytime by
Rolf Benirschke, who was in turn replaced by Bob Goen when
the network show moved to CBS. Goen remained as host for the
second NBC run. Stafford left in 1982, and was replaced by
White, who remained on the network show for the rest of its
run. Sajak and White have hosted the nighttime version since
its inception in 1983. The show has also had four announcers
in its history: Charlie O'Donnell, Jack Clark, M. G. Kelly
(1988–89), and Jim Thornton. |

THE TONIGHT
SHOW WITH JAY LENO
The
Tonight Show with Jay Leno
is an American late-night talk show hosted by Jay Leno that
first aired from May 25, 1992, to May 29, 2009, and resumed
production on March 1, 2010, until its ending on February 6,
2014.
The fourth incarnation of the
Tonight Show franchise debuted on May 25, 1992, three
days after Johnny Carson's retirement as host of the
program. The program originated from NBC Studios in Burbank,
California, and was broadcast Monday through Friday at 11:35 p.m.
in the Eastern and Pacific time zones (10:35 p.m.
Central/Mountain time). Unlike Carson or his predecessor
Jack Paar, Leno only once used a guest host, preferring to
host the series in person.
The series, which followed the
same basic format as that of its predecessors (an opening
monologue followed by comedy routines, interviews and
performances), ran until May 29, 2009, after which Leno was
succeeded by Conan O'Brien. NBC signed Leno to a new deal
for a nightly talk show in the 10:00 pm ET timeslot. The
primetime series, titled The Jay Leno Show, debuted
on September 14, 2009, following a similar format to the
Leno incarnation of Tonight. |

HOCKEY NIGHT IN
CANADA
Hockey Night in Canada
(often abbreviated Hockey Night or HNiC)
is a branding used for Canadian Saturday night broadcasts of
the National Hockey League (NHL).
Although the name has been
used for all NHL broadcasts on CBC Television (regardless of
the time of day), Hockey Night in Canada is primarily
associated with its Saturday night NHL broadcasts. Saturday
NHL broadcasts began in 1931 on the CNR Radio network, and
debuted on television in 1952. Initially, games were aired
once a week. Today, games air twice a week, normally at 7 pm
and 10 pm. (ET). The broadcast features various segments
during the intermissions and between games, as well as pre-
and post-game coverage of the night's games, and player
interviews. It also shows the hosts' opinions on news and
issues occurring in the league.
The Hockey Night in Canada
brand is owned by the CBC and was exclusively used by CBC
Sports through the end of the 2013–14 NHL season. Beginning
in the 2014–15 season, the brand is being licensed to Rogers
Communications for Sportsnet-produced Saturday NHL
broadcasts airing on CBC Television as well as the
Rogers-owned Citytv and Sportsnet networks. Rogers had
secured exclusive national multimedia rights to NHL games
beginning in 2014–15, and sublicensed Saturday night and
playoff games to CBC. This sub-license agreement runs
through the end of the Rogers deal with the NHL. |

ALL IN THE
FAMILY
All
in the Family
is an American sitcom television series that was originally
broadcast on the CBS television network for nine seasons,
from 1971 to 1979. Afterwards, it was continued with the
spin-off series Archie Bunker's Place, which picked
up where All in the Family had ended and ran for four
more seasons through 1983.
Based on the British sitcom
Till Death Us Do Part, All in the Family was
produced by Norman Lear and Bud Yorkin. It starred Carroll
O'Connor, Jean Stapleton, Sally Struthers, and Rob Reiner.
The show revolves around the life of a working-class man and
his family. The show broke ground in its depiction of issues
previously considered unsuitable for a US network television
comedy, such as racism, anti-Semitism, infidelity,
homosexuality, women's liberation, rape, religion,
miscarriages, abortion, breast cancer, the Vietnam War,
menopause, and impotence. Through depicting these
controversial issues, the series became arguably one of
television's most influential comedic programs, as it
injected the sitcom format with more dramatic moments and
realistic, topical conflicts. |

debuted as a pilot preview on July 5, 1990, and premiered as
a mid-season replacement on January 3, 1991, and aired until

father and two elder brothers. It was produced by Reo's
Impact Zone Productions and Witt/Thomas Productions in
association with Touchstone Television.
The series
focuses on the life of Blossom Russo (Mayim Bialik), an
Italian-American teenager. It begins with Blossom's mother
having left the family to pursue her own life and career,
and focuses on the family's attempts to adjust. Blossom's
father, Nick, an overprotective, somewhat conservative
session musician who is frequently between gigs and tours,
is played by Ted Wass. Her older brother Tony (Michael
Stoyanov) is a recovering alcoholic and drug addict who
eventually becomes a paramedic. Joey (Joey Lawrence), the
middle child (called Donnie in the pilot), is a
stereotypical "dumb jock", known for the exaggerated
delivery of his catchphrase "Whoa!" In fantasy scenes,

to CBS from September 19, 1997 to July 17, 1998. A spin-off

Winslow family, a middle-class African-American family
living in Chicago, Illinois.
Midway through the first season, the show
introduced the Winslows' nerdy neighbour Steve Urkel (Jaleel
White), who was originally scripted to appear as a one-time
character. However, he quickly became the show's breakout
character (and eventually the main character), joining the
main cast.
Running
for nine seasons, Family Matters became the
second-longest-running live action U.S. sitcom with a
predominantly African-American cast, behind only The
Jeffersons (11 seasons). It aired for 215 episodes, and

MAMA'S FAMILY
Mama's
Family originally
aired on NBC, debuting on January 22, 1983. After several
timeslot changes and a subsequent drop in ratings, the
network cancelled the series; the final episode of this
two-season NBC incarnation of the series aired on April 7,
1984. NBC broadcast reruns until September 1985, which
unexpectedly performed well in ratings.
Two years after its
cancellation, original series producer Joe Hamilton
Productions (JHP) revived Mama's Family for new
episodes in first-run syndication on local stations across
the United States. The reincarnation, produced by JHP and
distributed by Lorimar-Telepictures, premiered on September
27, 1986. The modified series revival garnered substantially
higher ratings than its first incarnation, eventually
becoming the highest-rated sitcom in first-run syndication.
The revived run lasted four seasons and did not end by
cancellation, but rather voluntarily on February 24, 1990.
The show is set in the city of
Raytown, which actress Vicki Lawrence later revealed to be
Raytown, Missouri, a suburb of Kansas City (although the
script writing suggests the setting was Raytown,
Mississippi, given the southern nature of the series). The
television series revolves around the wacky misadventures of
the Harper family, extended non-Harper family members and
their neighbour friend in later seasons. Always at the center
of all the trouble, turmoil and misunderstandings is head of
the clan and matriarch Thelma Harper (Mama)—a thickset, gray-haired,
purse-lipped, mid-to-late 60s widow who is portrayed as
explosively quick-tempered, abrasive, and brash. |

studying for his master's degree at the University of
Oxford, the series centres on Mr. Bean, described by
Atkinson as "a child in a grown man's body", as he solves
various problems presented by everyday tasks and often
causes disruption in the process. The series has been
influenced by physical comedy actors such as Jacques Tati
and those from early silent films. |

NIGHT COURT
Night Court is
an American television sitcom that aired on NBC from January
4, 1984, to May 31, 1992. The setting was the night shift of
a Manhattan municipal court presided over by a young,
unorthodox judge, Harold "Harry" T. Stone (portrayed by
Harry Anderson). The series was created by comedy writer
Reinhold Weege, who had previously worked on Barney
Miller in the 1970s and early 1980s. During its initial
seasons, the show was often compared to Barney Miller.
In addition to being created by a writer of that show,
Night Court (like Barney Miller) was set in New
York City, featured quirky, often dry humour, and dealt with
a staff who tried to cope with a parade of eccentric, often
neurotic criminals and complainants. Furthering this
comparison, these characters were routinely played by
character actors who had made frequent guest appearances on
Barney Miller, including Stanley Brock, Philip
Sterling,
Peggy Pope, and
Alex Henteloff. But while the characters appearing in
the courtroom (and the nature of their transgressions) were
often whimsical, bizarre or humorously inept, the show
initially took place in the 'real world'. In an early review
of the show, Time magazine called Night Court,
with its emphasis on non-glamorous, non-violent petty crime,
the most realistic law show on the air. |

SANFORD AND SON
Sanford and Son
is an American sitcom television series that ran on the NBC
television network from January 14, 1972, to March 25, 1977.
It was based on the British sitcom Steptoe and Son,
which originally aired on BBC One in the United Kingdom from
1962 to 1974.
Known for
its edgy racial humour, running gags, and catchphrases, the
series was adapted by Norman Lear and considered NBC's
answer to CBS's All in the Family. Sanford and Son
has been hailed as the precursor to many other
African-American sitcoms. It was a ratings hit throughout
its six-season run, finishing in the Nielsens top ten for
five of those seasons.
While the role of Fred G.
Sanford was known for his bigotry and cantankerousness, the
role of Lamont Sanford was that of Fred's long-suffering,
conscientious, peacemaker son. At times, both characters
involved themselves in schemes, usually as a means of
earning cash quickly to pay off their various debts. Other
colourful and unconventional characters on the show included
Aunt Esther, Grady Wilson, Bubba Bexley, and Rollo Lawson. |

THE ANDY
GRIFFITH SHOW
The
Andy Griffith Show
is an American situation
comedy television series that aired on CBS from October 3,
1960, to April 1, 1968, with a total of 249 half-hour
episodes spanning eight seasons—159 in black and white and
90 in color.
The series originated partly
from an episode of The Danny Thomas Show. The show
stars Andy Griffith as Andy Taylor, the widowed sheriff of
Mayberry, North Carolina, a fictional community of roughly
2,000–5,000 people. Other major characters include Andy's
cousin, the well-meaning and enthusiastic deputy, Barney
Fife (Don Knotts); Andy's aunt and housekeeper, Bee Taylor
(Frances Bavier); and Andy's young son, Opie (Ron Howard).
Eccentric townspeople and, periodically, Andy's girlfriends
complete the cast. Regarding the tone of the show, Griffith
said that despite a contemporary setting, the show evoked
nostalgia, saying in a Today Show interview, "Well,
though we never said it, and though it was shot in the '60s,
it had a feeling of the '30s. It was, when we were doing it,

THE BEVERLY
HILLBILLIES
The
Beverly Hillbillies is an American television sitcom
that was broadcast on CBS from 1962 to 1971. It had an
ensemble cast featuring Buddy Ebsen, Irene Ryan, Donna
Douglas, and Max Baer Jr. as the Clampetts, a poor,
backwoods family from the hills of the Ozarks, who move to
posh Beverly Hills, California, after striking oil on their
land. The show was produced by Filmways and was created by
Paul Henning. It was followed by two other Henning-inspired
"country cousin" series on CBS: Petticoat Junction
and its spin-off Green Acres, which reversed the
rags-to-riches, country-to-city model of The Beverly
Hillbillies.
The Beverly
Hillbillies ranked among the top 20 most-watched
programs on television for eight of its nine seasons,
ranking as the No. 1 series of the year during its first two
seasons, with 16 episodes that still remain among the 100
most-watched television episodes in American history. It
accumulated seven Emmy nominations during its run. It
remains in syndicated reruns, and its ongoing popularity
spawned a 1993 film adaptation by 20th Century Fox. |

THE BRADY BUNCH
The
Brady Bunch is
an American sitcom created by Sherwood Schwartz that aired
from September 26, 1969, to March 8, 1974, on ABC. The
series revolves around a large blended family with six
children. Considered one of the last old-style family
sitcoms, the show aired for five seasons and, after its
cancellation in 1974, went into syndication in September
1975. Though it was never a ratings hit or a critical
success during its original run, the program has since
become a popular syndicated staple, especially among
children and teenage viewers.
Mike Brady (Robert Reed), a
widowed architect with three sons—Greg (Barry Williams),
Peter (Christopher Knight), and Bobby (Mike Lookinland)—marries
Carol Martin (Florence Henderson), who herself has three
daughters: Marcia (Maureen McCormick), Jan (Eve Plumb), and
Cindy (Susan Olsen). Carol and her daughters take the Brady
surname. Included in the blended family are Mike's live-in
housekeeper, Alice Nelson (Ann B. Davis), and the boys' dog,
Tiger. (In the pilot episode, the girls also have a pet: a
cat named Fluffy. Fluffy never appears in any other
episodes.) The setting is a large two-story house designed

The Fresh
Prince of Bel-Air is an American television sitcom
created by Andy and Susan Borowitz, based loosely on Benny

channels in Canada, with its ultimate home at CBC
Television, and on Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) in the
United States (airing on more than 100 PBS affiliates at its
peak), from 1991 until the series finale 7 April 2006.
The Red Green Show is essentially a cross between a
sitcom and a sketch comedy series, and is a parody of home
improvement, do-it-yourself, fishing, and other outdoors
shows (particularly The Red Fisher Show). Reruns
currently air on CBC Television, CTV Comedy Channel, various
Public Broadcasting Service stations, and on the Red Green
Channel on Roku televisions. It was produced by S&S
Productions, which is owned by Steve and Morag Smith.
Directors on the series include Steve Smith, Rick Green and
William G. Elliott.
The title
character, Red Green (Steve Smith), is a handyman who tries
to find shortcuts to most of his projects, trusting most of
his work to duct tape, which he calls "the handyman's secret
weapon". He is the president of the Possum Lodge, a
fictional men's club in the small northwestern Ontario town
of Possum Lake, near the also-fictional town of Port
Asbestos. He and his fellow lodge members had their own
television show in which they gave lessons and

MATLOCK
Matlock
is an American mystery legal drama television series created
by Dean Hargrove, starring Andy Griffith in the title role
of criminal defense attorney Ben Matlock. The show, produced
by Intermedia Entertainment Company (first season only), The
Fred Silverman Company, Dean Hargrove Productions (called
Strathmore Productions in the first two seasons) and Viacom
Productions, originally aired March 3, 1986 – May 8, 1992,
on NBC and November 5, 1992 – May 7, 1995, on ABC.
The show's
format is similar to that of CBS' Perry Mason (both
Matlock and the 1980s Perry Mason television
films were created by Dean Hargrove), with Matlock
identifying the perpetrators and then confronting them in
dramatic courtroom scenes. One difference, however, was that
whereas Mason usually exculpated his clients at a pretrial
hearing, Matlock usually secured an acquittal at trial, from
the jury. Usually, at the end of the case, the person who is
on the stand being questioned by Matlock is the actual
perpetrator and Matlock will expose him/her, despite making
clear that his one goal is to prove reasonable doubt in the
case of his client's guilt or to prove his client's
innocence. Matlock studied law at Harvard Law School and,
after several years as a public defender, established his
law practice in Atlanta, living in a modest farmhouse in a
neighbouring suburb. He is known to visit crime scenes to
discover clues otherwise overlooked and come up with viable
alternative theories of the crime in question (usually
murder). Matlock also has conspicuously finicky fashion
sense; he generally appears in court wearing a trademark
light gray suit and, over the series' entire run, owned
three generations of the Ford Crown Victoria—always an all-gray
model (Griffith's character had always driven Ford products
in his 1960s series, The Andy Griffith Show). |

RESCUE 911
Rescue 911 is
an informational docudrama television series that premiered
on CBS on April 18, 1989, and ended on August 27, 1996. The
series was hosted by William Shatner and featured
re-enactments (and occasionally real footage) of emergencies
that often involved calls to 911.
Though never intended as a
teaching tool, various viewers used the knowledge they
obtained watching the show. Two specials, titled "100 Lives
Saved" and "200 Lives Saved," were dedicated to these
viewers who had written to CBS with their stories on how the
knowledge they obtained watching the show allowed them to
save the life of someone else. At least 350 lives have been
saved as a result of what viewers learned from watching it.
The show's popularity coincided with the widespread adoption
of the 911 emergency system, replacing standalone police and
fire numbers that would vary from municipality to
municipality. The number is now universally understood in
the United States and Canada to be the number dialled for
emergency assistance nationwide.
At its height, the show was
adapted in 45 countries (with their own 911 equivalent
showcased). |

SUPERHUMAN
SAMURAI SYBER-SQUAD
Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad
(or, in short, SSSS) is an American television
series. It was produced by Tsuburaya Productions, Ultracom
Inc. and DIC Productions, L.P., with distribution by All
American Television, and ran for a duration of 53 episodes
from September 12, 1994 to April 11, 1995 in syndication, as
well as on ABC. It was an adaptation of the Japanese
tokusatsu series Gridman the Hyper Agent.
High school student Sam
Collins, the head of a band known as Team Samurai, is zapped
during a recording session by a power surge and disappears,
only to return seconds later with a strange device attached
to his wrist which, at the time, is unremovable. Later after
his friends, Amp, Sydney, and Tanker, leave, one of his
video game programs, dubbed Servo, is subject to a
power surge and zaps Sam again just after he has remarked
"Cool battle armour!" - this time he is pulled into the
digital world and transformed into his creation. As Servo,
he roams the digital world and fights monsters dubbed
Mega-Viruses which are capable of attacking any device
on the electrical grid (including the grid itself), Internet
or telephone network, usually having real-life consequences
far beyond what any standard computer virus would be capable
of achieving.
Meanwhile, Malcolm Frink,
another student from Sam's school, is designing monsters on
his home computer when Kilokahn, an escaped military
artificial-intelligence program that was presumed destroyed
in the power surge, visits him via his computer screen and
strikes a Faustian deal with him, transforming his digital
monster into a Mega-Virus. |

THE DUKES OF
HAZZARD
The Dukes
of Hazzard is an American action-comedy television
series that was aired on CBS from January 26, 1979, to
February 8, 1985. The show aired for 147 episodes spanning
seven seasons. It was consistently among the top-rated
television series in the late 1970s (at one point, ranking
second only to Dallas, which immediately followed the
show on CBS's Friday night schedule). The show is about two
young male cousins, Bo and Luke Duke, who live in rural
Georgia and are on probation for moonshine-running. The
young men and their friends and their female cousin Daisy
Duke, and other family (such as patriarch Uncle Jesse), have
various escapades as they evade the corrupt law officers
Boss Hogg and Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane. The young men drive
a customized 1969 Dodge Charger nicknamed the General Lee,
which became a symbol of the show.
The series was
inspired by the 1975 film Moonrunners, about a
bootlegger family which was also created by Gy Waldron and
had many identical or similar character names and concepts.
The show was the basis for a film of the same title in 2005.

THE LITTLEST
HOBO
The
Littlest Hobo is a Canadian television series
(French title: Le Vagabond) based upon a 1958
American film of the same name directed by Charles R.
Rondeau. The series first aired from 1963 to 1965 in
syndication, and was revived for a popular second run on
CTV, spanning six seasons, from October 11, 1979 to March 7,
1985. The concept of the show was that of "an ownerless
dog".
All three
productions revolved around an extremely intelligent stray
German Shepherd, the titular Hobo, who wanders from
town to town, helping people in need. Although the concept
(of a dog saving the day) was perhaps similar to that of
Lassie and/or Rin Tin Tin, the Littlest Hobo's
destiny was to befriend those who apparently needed help
(all portrayed by actors in celebrity guest appearance
roles). Despite the attempts of the many people whom he
helped to adopt him, he appeared to prefer to be on his own,
and would head off by himself at the end of each episode.

FUTURAMA
Futurama is an
American animated science fiction sitcom created by Matt
Groening that premiered on Fox on March 28, 1999. The series
follows the adventures of the professional slacker Philip J.
Fry, who is cryogenically preserved for 1000 years and is
revived in the 31st century. Fry finds work at an
interplanetary delivery company, working alongside the
one-eyed Leela and robot Bender. The series was envisioned
by Groening in the mid-1990s while working on The
Simpsons; he brought David X. Cohen aboard to develop
storylines and characters to pitch the show to Fox.
Following its initial
cancellation by Fox, Futurama began airing reruns on
Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block, which lasted
from 2003 to 2007 and again since 2021. It was revived in
2007 as four direct-to-video films, the last of which was
released in early 2009. Comedy Central entered into an
agreement with 20th Century Fox Television to syndicate the
existing episodes and air the films as 16 new, half-hour
episodes, constituting a fifth season.
In June 2009, Comedy Central
picked up the show for 26 new half-hour episodes, which
began airing in 2010 and 2011. The show was renewed for a
seventh season, with the first half airing in 2012 and the
second in 2013. An audio-only episode featuring the original
cast members was released in 2017 as an episode of The
Nerdist Podcast. On February 9, 2022, Hulu revived the
series with a 20-episode order set to premiere in 2023. |

THE SIMPSONS
The
Simpsons is an American animated sitcom created by
Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The series
is a satirical depiction of American life, epitomized by the
Simpson family, which consists of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa,
and Maggie. The show is set in the fictional town of
Springfield and parodies American culture and society,
television, and the human condition.
The family was
conceived by Groening shortly before a solicitation for a
series of animated shorts with producer James L. Brooks. He
created a dysfunctional family and named the characters
after his own family members, substituting Bart for his own
name; he thought Simpson was a funny name in that it sounded
similar to "simpleton". The shorts became a part of The
Tracey Ullman Show on April 19, 1987. After three
seasons, the sketch was developed into a half-hour prime
time show and became Fox's first series to land in the Top
30 ratings in a season (1989–1990). |

CARE BEARS
Care
Bears are multi-colored
bears, originally painted in 1981 by artist Elena Kucharik
to be used on greeting cards from American Greetings. In
1983, the characters were turned into plush teddy bears.
The characters headlined their
own television series called Care Bears from 1985 to

(1986), and The Care Bears Adventure in Wonderland

Each Care Bear is a different

DARKWING DUCK
Darkwing Duck
is an American animated superhero comedy television series
produced by Disney Television Animation (formerly Walt
Disney Television Animation) that first ran from 1991 to
1992 on both the syndicated programming block The Disney
Afternoon and Saturday mornings on ABC. A total of
ninety-one episodes were aired. It features the adventures
of Darkwing Duck, who is the superheroic alter-ego of
ordinary suburban duck Drake Mallard. Darkwing Duck
tells the adventures of the titular superhero, aided by his
sidekick and pilot Launchpad McQuack (from DuckTales).
In his secret identity of Drake Mallard (a parody of Kent
Allard, the alter ego of the Shadow), he lives in an
unassuming suburban house with his adopted daughter Gosalyn,
next door to the bafflingly dim-witted Muddlefoot family.
Darkwing struggles to balance his egotistical craving for
fame and attention against his desire to be a good father to
Gosalyn and help do good in St. Canard. Most episodes put
these two aspects of Darkwing's character in direct
conflict, though Darkwing's better nature usually prevails. |

DAVE THE

Dave the
Barbarian is an American animated television series
created by Doug Langdale for Disney Channel. The show
centers on a barbarian named Dave and his friends and
family, who go on surreal Medieval-themed adventures. The
series premiered on January 23, 2004 and ended on January
22, 2005, with a total of one season with 21 episodes.
The series
takes place in the kingdom of Udrogoth during the Middle

powerful yet cowardly barbarian who lives with his
fashionable yet self-centered older sister Candy (Erica
Luttrell) and feisty younger sister Fang (Tress MacNeille).
His parents, Throktar and Glimia, are the King and Queen,
but are away "fighting evil" across the world (though they
sometimes communicate via a magic crystal ball or cauldron),
and have left Candy in charge of the kingdom as Princess
Regent while Dave is supposed to defend the kingdom (since
he is the biggest). Together the three siblings, along with
their gluttonous and mildly incompetent "wizard" uncle

DINOSAURS
Dinosaurs
was a half-hour sitcom which aired on ABC. The series,
conceived just before Jim Henson's death, focused on a
family of dinosaurs, the Sinclairs, and used ground-breaking
full body, animatronic puppets.
The show was a
joint venture that merged the talents and resources of
Michael Jacobs Productions, The Jim Henson Company, and
Disney's Touchstone Entertainment. Dinosaurs made use of a
system known as animatronics to express and alter the
dinosaurs' facial movements, a process developed by Brian
Henson and his team at the London Creature Shop.
The show was an
effective parody of human life and the American sitcom.
Dinosaurs was set in the year 60,000,003 BC. Just a
million years earlier, the dinosaurs behaved like animals,
eating their offspring and living in swamps. But now they
had evolved, raising families, living in houses, working,
and paying taxes. |

character, Wylie Burp, is written off from this show
following the respect of James Stewart's retirement. Another
character, Tony Toponi, is written off following Pat
Musick's then-current parenting of her daughter Mae Whitman,
as Tony could not reappear until the DTV sequels in the late
1990s. He only made cameos in Fievel Goes West owing
to that respect.
The show had a
focus on promoting reading, and frequently the solution to
an episode's conflict was found by Fievel reading. The
character also appeared in public-service messages sponsored
by the nonprofit Reading Is Fundamental.
After its
abandonment for over two decades, NBCUniversal regained
rights to the series in 2020. |

FILLMORE!
Fillmore! is an
American animated television series created by Scott M.
Gimple for ABC and, later, Toon Disney. It originally ran
from 2002 to 2004. A parody of popular police dramas of the
1970s, Fillmore! is centered on reformed juvenile
delinquent Cornelius Fillmore and his new partner, Ingrid
Third, members of the Safety Patrol at X Middle School. The
series was aimed at children, but also attracted an older
audience with its '70s references.
It was the last series
produced by Walt Disney Television Animation for ABC, before
producing shows exclusively with Disney Channel. It is also
the last Saturday-morning cartoon. The series ran for two
seasons (the standard length for a Saturday morning cartoon)
and maintains a dedicated fanbase and is considered a cult
hit. Reruns later aired on Disney Channel, Toon Disney, and
Disney XD. |

GARFIELD AND
FRIENDS
Garfield
and Friends is an American animated television
series based on the comic strip Garfield by Jim Davis
and run on CBS Saturday mornings from September 17, 1988, to
December 10, 1994, with reruns airing until October 7, 1995.
Seven seasons of the series were produced.
In addition to
the segments featuring Garfield, the series also included
segments featuring the characters from U.S. Acres, a
comic strip Davis was drawing concurrently with Garfield
when Garfield and Friends premiered on television.
Like the comic strip these were based on, the animated
segments were re-titled Orson's Farm for viewers
outside of the United States (taking the name of their main
character, Orson Pig). Although Davis stopped producing new
strips of U.S. Acres/Orson's Farm seven months after
Garfield and Friends debuted, the characters
continued to appear on television throughout the show's run.

Inspector Gadget
is an animated science fiction comedy series from the
mid–1980s co-created by Andy Heyward, Jean Chalopin and
Bruno Bianchi, and was originally syndicated by DIC
Audiovisuel and Lexington Broadcast Services Company. The
series stars the voice of Don Adams as the titular
character, and first premiered on September 12, 1983. It is

1983 to 1986, broadcasting 86 episodes over two seasons, and
remained in syndication into the late 1990s. The show

MY PET MONSTER
The My
Pet Monster character began as a plush doll first
produced by AM Toys, a subsidiary of American Greetings, in
1986. As one of the few plush dolls marketed to boys at the
time, My Pet Monster was popular in the late 1980s and early
1990s.
The character's popularity
spawned a live-action direct-to-video film in 1986 about a
boy named Max who becomes the Pet Monster after being
exposed to a statue, changing when hungry. Dr. Snyder, the
scientist who originally discovered the statues and the
legend behind them, wants to kidnap him for publicity
purposes, while Max's sister helps him out of the crisis. A
pilot for an unproduced series, it ends on a cliffhanger as
Snyder is exposed to a statue of a much larger and more
menacing monster and begins to transform.
My Pet Monster also spawned a
children's cartoon series that ran for one season on ABC,
produced by Ellipse (France), Nelvana (Canada), and Hi-Tops
Video in association with Golden Books. It gives a
completely different origin for the creature than the
live-action film. The show follows Monster, who lives with a
boy named Max. When Monster wears his handcuffs, they turn
him into a stuffed animal. Max often puts the handcuffs on
Monster to keep his existence secret from others. Max's
sister, Jill, and his friend Chuckie, are the only ones that
know this secret. |

POPPLES
Popples is an
animated television series, based on the Popples toys,
created by Marie Cisterino, Janet Jones, Fran Kariotakis,
Janet Redding, and Susan Trentel, that aired in syndication
in the United States from 1986 to 1987. The cartoon was
produced by DIC Enterprises and LBS Communications in
association with The Maltese Companies.
Like the toys which they are
based on, the Popples resemble colorful teddy bears/rabbits
with long, pompom-tipped tails, and they have pouches on
their backs that allow them to curl into a fuzzy ball. All
the Popples stutter when they say words with the letter "P"
in them. The name "Popple" is a reference to the popping
sound they make when unfolding themselves from such a ball,
or pulling objects from their pouches. In the cartoon
Popples commonly pull large items from their pouches that
could not possibly fit inside, which come from hammerspace;
in "Popples Alley", one of the Popples' human friends looks
inside one of their pouches and sees numerous objects
floating in a void.
Nine of the Popples live with
a human brother and sister, Billy and Bonnie Wagner. Billy
and Bonnie think they are the only kids who have Popples
until a neighbor family moves in and they have their own
Popples — the Rock Stars, Pufflings, and Babies. The Popples
tend to make the kids activities go out of hand, but with
beneficial results by the end. The plot revolved around the
children's efforts to hide the existence of the Popples from
the adults around them, although their existence is found
out by the Wagner parents in the pilot and not in the
cartoons. |

RUGRATS
Rugrats
is an American animated television series created by Arlene
Klasky, Gábor Csupó, and Paul Germain for Nickelodeon. The
show focuses on a group of toddlers most prominently—Tommy,
Chuckie, Angelica, and twins Phil and Lil—and their
day-to-day lives, usually involving life experiences that
become much greater adventures in the imaginations of the
main characters.
The series
premiered on August 11, 1991, as the second Nicktoon—after
Doug and before The Ren & Stimpy Show, with an
initial instalment of 65 episodes spanning three seasons.
Production was then halted in 1993 with the last episode
airing on May 22, 1994. From 1995 to 1996, the only new
episodes broadcast were "A Rugrats Passover" and "A Rugrats
Chanukah", two Jewish-themed episodes that received critical
acclaim. During this time, after the end of the show's
production run, Rugrats began to receive a boost in
ratings and popularity due to constant reruns on
Nickelodeon. |

SCOOBY DOO
Scooby-Doo is
an American animated franchise comprising many animated
television series produced from 1969 to the present, as well
as their derivative media. Writers Joe Ruby and Ken Spears
created the original series, Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!,
for Hanna-Barbera Productions in 1969. This Saturday-morning
cartoon series featured teenagers Fred Jones, Daphne Blake,
Velma Dinkley, and Shaggy Rogers, and their talking Great
Dane named Scooby-Doo, who solve mysteries involving
supposedly supernatural creatures through a series of antics
and missteps.
Scooby-Doo was
originally broadcast on CBS from 1969 to 1976, when it moved
to ABC. ABC aired various versions of Scooby-Doo
until cancelling it in 1985, and presented a spin-off
featuring the characters as children called A Pup Named
Scooby-Doo from 1988 until 1991. Two Scooby-Doo
reboots aired as part of Kids' WB on The WB and its
successor The CW from 2002 until 2008. Further reboots were
produced for Cartoon Network beginning in 2010 and
continuing through 2018. Repeats of the various
Scooby-Doo series are frequently broadcast on Cartoon
Network's sister channel Boomerang in the United States as
well as other countries. The current Scooby-Doo
series, Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?, premiered on June
27, 2019, as an original series on Boomerang's streaming
service and later HBO Max. |

STOP THE
SMOGGIES
The
Smoggies is a
1989-1990 animated children's television show by Cinar.
The show took place on or
around the fictional Coral Island, and revolved around a
group of island-dwelling people called the Suntots and a
trio of polluting treasure hunters called the Smoggies. The
Suntots spent much of their time defending their island
paradise from the Smoggies, who polluted everything around
them and lived on a coal fired steam ship, the SS Stinky
Poo, which polluted the water and air around the island.
The Smoggies constantly tried to destroy the Suntots' home
for their own benefits.
Almost every episode had the
environmentalist Suntots outsmarting the Smoggies latest
scheme, after which the Smoggies invariably hatched another
scheme. Thus, the show also explains the importance of
protecting the environment.
A recurring theme was their
attempt to steal the island's "magic coral" (which the
Smoggies believed granted eternal youth), or find some
alternative way to maintain youth. The show often implied
that the magic coral did not actually exist, however, and
were just manifestations of the Smoggies' (mainly Emma's)
greed and vanity. |

THE ADVENTURES
OF TEDDY RUXPIN
The
Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin is a children's animated
television series based on Teddy Ruxpin, an animatronic
teddy bear created by Ken Forsse and distributed by toy
manufacturer Worlds of Wonder. Produced in 1986–7 for
television syndication by DIC Enterprises with Atkinson
Film-Arts, the series employed many of the same voice actors
used in the book-and-tape series that was made for the
eponymous animatronic toy. While some of the stories used in
the TV series were adapted from the books, many were
original and greatly expanded upon the world established
there. The series differed from traditional children's
animation in that most of its 65 episodes were serialized
rather than in traditional episodic form.
In the United
States, the series was originally syndicated by LBS
Communications.
The
Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin follows 15-year-old Teddy
Ruxpin as he leaves his home on the island of Rillonia with
his best friend Grubby to follow an ancient map which leads
him to find a collection of crystals on the mainland of
Grundo. With the help of his new friend Dr. Newton Gimmick,
Teddy and Grubby discover the magical powers of what turns
out to be an ancestral treasure as well as an organization
with ambitions to use it for evil known as M.A.V.O. (short
for Monsters and Villains Organization). Along the way,
Teddy learns the long-lost history of his species and clues
to the location of his missing father. |

THE ADVENTURES
OF TINTIN
Hergé's
Adventures of Tintin
(Les
aventures de Tintin d'aprčs Hergé) (1957) was the
first production of Belvision Studios. Ten of Hergé's books
were adapted, each serialised into a set of five-minute
episodes, with 103 episodes produced. The series was
directed by Ray Goossens and written by Belgian comic artist
Greg, later editor-in-chief of Tintin magazine, and
produced by Raymond Leblanc. Most stories in the series
varied widely from the original books, often changing whole
plots.
The
Adventures of Tintin
(Les
aventures de Tintin) (1991–92) was the more
successful Tintin television series. An adaptation of
twenty-one Tintin books, it was directed by Stéphane
Bernasconi and was produced by Ellipse (France) and Canadian
Nelvana on behalf of the Hergé Foundation. The series
adhered closely to the albums to such an extent that panels
from the original were often transposed directly to the
screen. The series aired in over fifty countries and was
released on DVD. It aired in the US on HBO. |

The
Bots Master is
a 1993 cartoon series, produced by Jean Chalopin through his
company "Créativité et Développement" ("C&D") in France
(where the show was known as Le Maître des Bots) and
Saban International. In total 40 episodes were made, each
one having a special 3D segment and titles. The series was
co-produced by Avi Arad and Associates. The show also had a
toyline based on it. In the year 2025 A.D., robots have
become commonplace, performing menial tasks and working in
industry. For that, the world can thank the young genius
robotic engineer Ziv "ZZ" Zulander and the Robotic Megafact
Corporation (aka RM Corp) he works for. Ziv's creation of
the "3A robot series" revolutionized the world and its
application of robotics. However, Sir Lewis Leon Paradim (aka
"LLP", president of RM Corp) isn't satisfied being one of
the wealthiest men in the world; he desires world
domination. With his assistants Lady Frenzy and Dr. Hiss,
LLP plans to take control of the planet through a coup,
using the very same 3A bots that ZZ had invented to benefit
humanity. Dr. Hiss creates a new chip, called the "Krang

THE BUGS BUNNY
& TWEETY SHOW
The Bugs
Bunny Show is a long-running American animated
anthology television series hosted by Bugs Bunny that was
mainly composed of theatrical Looney Tunes and
Merrie Melodies cartoons released by Warner Bros.
between 1948 and 1969. The show originally debuted as a
primetime half-hour program on ABC in 1960, featuring three
theatrical Looney Tunes cartoons with new linking
sequences produced by the Warner Bros. Cartoons staff.
After two
seasons, The Bugs Bunny Show moved to Saturday
mornings, where it remained in one format or another for
nearly four decades. The show's title and length changed
regularly over the years, as did the network: both ABC and
CBS broadcast versions of The Bugs Bunny Show. In
2000, the series, by then known as The Bugs Bunny &
Tweety Show, was cancelled after the Looney Tunes
and Merrie Melodies libraries became the exclusive
property of the Cartoon Network family of cable TV networks
in the United States. Reruns of The Bugs Bunny and Tweety
Show were aired on the Canadian channels Teletoon and
Teletoon's sister channel, Teletoon Retro (until 2015 when
Teletoon Retro signed off). Prior to Teletoon and Teletoon
Retro, CBC Television (1960–1975) and Global Television
Network (1978–1982, 1990–2000) aired the show. In Australia,
episodes of the show was divided into 3 networks with most
episodes aired on Nine Network and some episodes were
divided on Network Ten and Seven Network since its debut.

THE FLINTSTONES
The
Flintstones is an American animated sitcom produced
by Hanna-Barbera Productions. The series takes place in a
romanticized Stone Age setting and follows the activities of
the titular family, the Flintstones, and their next-door
neighbours, the Rubbles. It was originally broadcast on ABC
from September 30, 1960, to April 1, 1966, and was the first
animated series to hold a prime-time slot on television.
The show
follows the lives of Fred and Wilma Flintstone and their
pets Dino and Baby Puss, eventually seeing the addition of
baby Pebbles Flintstone. Also featured are relatives Pearl
Slaghoople and Uncle Tex Hardrock. The Rubbles are close
characters to the Flintstones, including Fred's best friend,
Barney Rubble, and his family, Betty Rubble, Bamm-Bamm
Rubble and their pet, Hoppy.
Producers
William Hanna and Joseph Barbera gained inspiration for the
show's concept and music from popular cartoons of that time,
including The Bugs Bunny Show and Tom and Jerry.
The continuing
popularity of The Flintstones rests heavily on its
juxtaposition of modern everyday concerns in the Stone Age
setting. The Flintstones was the most financially
successful and longest-running network animated television
series for three decades, until The Simpsons
surpassed it in 1997. In 2013, TV Guide ranked The
Flintstones the second-greatest TV cartoon of all time
(after The Simpsons). |

THE JETSONS
The
Jetsons is an American animated sitcom produced by
Hanna-Barbera Productions. It originally aired in prime time
from September 23, 1962 to March 17, 1963 on ABC, then later
aired in reruns via syndication. New episodes were produced
from 1985 to 1987 as part of The Funtastic World of
Hanna-Barbera block. It was Hanna-Barbera's Space Age
counterpart to The Flintstones.
While the
Flintstones lived in a world which was a comical version of
the Stone Age, with machines powered by birds and dinosaurs,
the Jetsons live in a comical version of a century in the
future, with elaborate robotic contraptions, aliens,
holograms, and whimsical inventions. The original was
comprised of 24 episodes and aired on Sunday nights on ABC
beginning on September 23, 1962, with prime time reruns
continuing through September 22, 1963. It debuted as the
first program broadcast in color on ABC. (Only a handful of
ABC stations were capable of broadcasting in color in the
early 1960s.) Following its primetime run, the show aired on
Saturday mornings for decades, starting on ABC for the
1963–64 season and then on CBS and NBC. New episodes were
produced for syndication from 1985 to 1987. No further
specials or episodes of the show were produced after 1989,
as the majority of the core cast (George O'Hanlon, Mel Blanc

THE SMURFS
The
Smurfs is an
animated fantasy-comedy children's television series that
originally aired on NBC from 12 September 1981 to 2 December
1989, lasted for eight years. Produced by Hanna-Barbera
Productions, it is based on the Belgian comic series by the
same name, created by Belgian cartoonist Peyo (who also
served as story supervisor of this adaptation) and aired for
258 episodes with a total of 419 stories, excluding three
cliffhanger episodes and seven specials.
In 1976, Stuart R. Ross, an
American media and entertainment entrepreneur who saw the
Smurfs while traveling in Belgium, entered into an agreement
with Editions Dupuis and Peyo, acquiring North American and
other rights to the characters, whose original name was "les
Schtroumpfs". Subsequently, Ross launched the Smurfs in the
United States in association with a California company,
Wallace Berrie and Co., whose figurines, dolls and other
Smurf merchandise became a hugely popular success. NBC
President Fred Silverman's daughter, Melissa, had a Smurf
doll of her own that he had bought for her at a toy shop
while they were visiting Aspen, Colorado. Silverman thought
that a series based on the Smurfs might make a good addition
to his Saturday-morning line-up. |

THUNDERBIRDS
Thunderbirds is a British science fiction television
series created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, filmed by their
production company AP Films (APF) and distributed by ITC
Entertainment. It was made between 1964 and 1966 using a
form of electronic marionette puppetry (dubbed "Supermarionation")
combined with scale model special effects sequences. Two
series, totalling thirty-two 50-minute episodes, were
filmed; production ended with the completion of the sixth
episode of the second series after Lew Grade, the Andersons'
financial backer, failed in his bid to sell the programme to
American network television.
Set in the
2060s, Thunderbirds is a follow-up to the earlier
Supermarionation productions Four Feather Falls,
Supercar, Fireball XL5 and Stingray. It
follows the exploits of International Rescue, a life-saving
organisation equipped with technologically-advanced land,
sea, air and space rescue craft; these are headed by a fleet
of five vehicles named the Thunderbirds and launched
from the organisation's secret base of operations in the
Pacific Ocean. The main characters are ex-astronaut Jeff
Tracy, leader of International Rescue, and his five adult
sons, who pilot the Thunderbird machines. |

TOTAL DRAMA
Total Drama
(often shortened as TD) is a Canadian animated
television series created by Jennifer Pertsch and Tom
McGillis that premiered on Teletoon in Canada on July 8,
2007, and on Cartoon Network in the U.S. on June 5, 2008.
The series is both a homage and satire of common conventions
from reality television competition shows.
Each season revolves around a
group of teenagers competing in a fictional competition
similar to that of Survivor, in that the contestants
compete in challenges for rewards and immunity from
elimination. As the contestants develop relationships with
each other, they are progressively eliminated from the game
until only one remains to be awarded the grand prize. The
inaugural series consists of five seasons (Island,
Action, World Tour, Revenge of the Island,

ASTRO BOY
Astro Boy
("Mighty Atom"), sometimes referred to as New
Mighty Atom, is a color remake of the 1960s anime
black-and-white series of the same name(s); both series are
adapted from the manga series by Osamu Tezuka.
This series
places more focus on Astro's robotic abilities and has a
darker tone than previous incarnations of the series.
Although this series places much more emphasis on action
scenes than the first one, the theme of "robots with hearts"
is still prevalent in this anime. It is also the last
Astro Boy work that Tezuka himself wrote and directed,
and the humour of the story and direction that is typical of
Tezuka can be seen throughout. The English dubs cut out some
of the series' more violent moments, such as Astro being
beheaded in the episode "Lilly on Peligro Island" and
Blackie Young and his crew destroying the robot guard and
factory owner in the episode "Blackie Young". |

DRAGON BALL
Dragon Ball
is a Japanese media franchise created by Akira
Toriyama in 1984. The initial manga, written and illustrated
by Toriyama, was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump
from 1984 to 1995, with the 519 individual chapters
collected into 42 tankōbon volumes by its publisher
Shueisha. Dragon Ball was originally inspired by the
classical 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West,
combined with elements of Hong Kong martial arts films. The
series follows the adventures of protagonist Son Goku from
his childhood through adulthood as he trains in martial
arts. He spends his childhood far from civilization until he
meets a teen girl named Bulma, who encourages him to join
her quest in exploring the world in search of the seven orbs
known as the Dragon Balls, which summon a wish-granting
dragon when gathered. Along his journey, Goku makes several
other friends, becomes a family man, discovers his alien
heritage, and battles a wide variety of villains, many of
whom also seek the Dragon Balls.
Toriyama's manga was adapted
and divided into two anime series produced by Toei
Animation: Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z,
which together were broadcast in Japan from 1986 to 1996.
Additionally, the studio has developed 21 animated feature
films and three television specials, as well as two anime
sequel series titled Dragon Ball GT (1996–1997) and
Dragon Ball Super (2015–2018). From 2009 to 2015, a
revised version of Dragon Ball Z aired in Japan under
the title Dragon Ball Kai, as a recut that follows
the manga's story more faithfully by removing most of the
material featured exclusively in the anime.
Since its release, Dragon
Ball has become one of the most successful manga and
anime series of all time, with the manga sold in over 40 countries
and the anime broadcast in more than 80 countries.
The manga's 42 collected tankōbon volumes have over
160 million copies in circulation in Japan and
260 million in circulation
worldwide, making it the third best-selling manga series.
Reviewers have praised the art, characterization, and humour
of the story. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest
and most influential manga series ever made, with many manga
artists citing Dragon Ball as a source of inspiration
for their own now-popular works. The anime, particularly
Dragon Ball Z, is also highly popular around the world
and is considered one of the most influential in boosting
the popularity of Japanese animation in Western culture. It
has had a considerable impact on global popular culture,
referenced by and inspiring numerous artists, athletes,
celebrities, filmmakers, musicians and writers around the
world. |

INUYASHA
Inuyasha
is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by
Rumiko Takahashi. It was serialized in Shogakukan's
shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Sunday from
November 1996 to June 2008, with its chapters collected in
fifty-six tankōbon volumes. The series begins with
Kagome Higurashi, a fifteen-year-old middle school girl from
modern-day Tokyo who is transported to the Sengoku period
after falling into a well in her family shrine, where she
meets the half-dog demon, half-human Inuyasha. After the
sacred Shikon Jewel re-emerges from deep inside Kagome's
body, she accidentally shatters it into dozens of fragments
that scatter across Japan. Inuyasha and Kagome set to
recover the Jewel's fragments, and through their quest they
are joined by the lecherous monk Miroku, the demon slayer
Sango, and the fox demon Shippo. Together, they journey to
restore the Shikon Jewel before it falls into the hands of
the evil half-demon Naraku.
In contrast to
the typically comedic nature of much of Takahashi's previous
work, Inuyasha deals with a darker and more serious
subject matter, using the setting of the Sengoku period to
easily display the violent content while still retaining
some comedic elements. The manga was adapted into two anime
television series by Sunrise. The first series ran for 167
episodes on Yomiuri TV from October 2000 to September 2004.
The second series, Inuyasha: The Final Act, ran for
26 episodes from October 2009 to March 2010. Four feature
films and an original video animation have also been
released. Other merchandise includes video games and a light
novel. A sequel anime television series, titled Yashahime:
Princess Half-Demon, aired for two seasons from October
2020 to March 2022. |

Gundam
is a Japanese military fiction media franchise/media

features giant robots, or mecha, with the name "Gundam". The
franchise began on April 7, 1979 with Mobile Suit Gundam,
a TV series that defined the "real robot" mecha anime genre
by featuring giant robots called mobile suits (including the
original titular mecha) in a militaristic setting. The
popularity of the series and its merchandise spawned a
franchise that includes 50 TV series, films and OVAs as well
as manga, novels and video games, along with a whole
industry of plastic model kits known as Gunpla which makes
up 90 percent of the Japanese character plastic-model
market.
Mobile
Suit Gundam Wing, also known in Japan as New
Mobile Report Gundam Wing, is a 1995 Japanese mecha
anime series directed by Masashi Ikeda and written by
Katsuyuki Sumizawa. It is the sixth installment in the
Gundam franchise, taking place in the "After Colony"
timeline.
The series
aired in Japan on the terrestrial TV Asahi network. It ran
for 49 episodes, beginning on April 7, 1995 and ending on
March 29, 1996. It received multiple manga adaptations, as
well as video games. Four original video animation (OVA)
episodes were produced including a retelling of the series,
Operation Meteor, and a direct sequel, Endless
Waltz. In 2010, Sumizawa started writing the novel
Frozen Teardrop, another sequel to the series. While the
series fared modestly well in Japan, it found greater
success in the United States and popularized the Gundam
franchise in the West. |

THE WONDERFUL
WIZARD OF OZ
The
Wonderful Wizard of Oz, is a Japanese anime
television series adaptation based on four of the original
early 20th century Oz books by L. Frank Baum. In Japan, the
series aired on TV Tokyo from 1986 to 1987. It consists of
52 episodes, which explain other parts of the Oz stories,
including the events that happened after Dorothy returned
home.
In 1987, HBO
purchased the rights to the series and dubbed it into
English. Production for the English version was done by the
Montreal-based studio Cinar (now WildBrain). Actress Margot
Kidder was hired as narrator, and the musical band The
Parachute Club provided songs for the series, which aired in
the U.S. both in its original weekly episodic form and as a
four-part miniseries edited from the TV episodes. This
English version attempted to completely occlude the show's
Japanese origins, going so far as to remove all Japanese
names and studios from the credits and to credit key aspects
of the animation to Westerners, which applied primarily to
the CGI opening sequence. The English dub of the series
formerly aired in the U.S. on the Cookie Jar Toons block on
This TV . Indonesian version was broadcast by Spacetoon in
2009. |

YU-GI-OH! DUEL
MONSTERS
Yu-Gi-Oh!
is a Japanese manga series about trading card gaming
written and illustrated by Kazuki Takahashi. It was
serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine
between September 1996 and March 2004.
Yu-Gi-Oh!
tells the tale of Yugi Mutou, a timid young boy who loves
all sorts of games, but is often bullied around. One day, he
solves an ancient puzzle known as the Millennium Puzzle,
causing his body to play host to a mysterious spirit with
the personality of a gambler. From that moment onwards,
whenever Yugi or one of his friends is threatened by those
with darkness in their hearts, this other Yugi shows himself
and challenges them to dangerous Shadow Games,
which reveal the true nature of someone's heart, the
losers of these contests often being subjected to a dark
punishment called a Penalty Game. Whether it be cards, dice,
or role-playing board games, he will take on challenges from
anyone, anywhere.
As the series
progresses, Yugi and his friends learn that this person
inside of his puzzle is actually the spirit of a nameless
Pharaoh from Ancient Egyptian times, who had lost his
memories. As Yugi and his companions attempt to help the
Pharaoh regain his memories, they find themselves going
through many trials as they wager their lives facing off
against gamers that wield the mysterious Millennium Items
and the dark power of the Shadow Games. |
