Colorado Rockies
(1976-1982)
The Rocky side of the
story!!
In 1974 two NHL teams was entered and were know as the
Washington Capitals and Kansas City Scouts. The Scouts were a very unlinked team
and a dreadful one too. No only did Kansas City fail to make the playoffs they
were forced to go to Colorado after 1 season of play(1974-1975). The team was
named the Rockies, the Rockies had coach Don Cherry but even still the team in 7
years(1975-1982) didn't make good enough standards for the NHL, so they moved
again. This time it was in New Jersey they stood their ground, they were named
the New Jersey Devil's. Up until 1995 the Devil's went to a new level they achieved
a goal what neither of the other 2 franchises could have done, the
ultimate goal of getting the Stanley Cup. New Jersey defeated the Detroit Red
Wings easily with a series of 4-0. That was it, they again made it to the finals
in 2000 and this time they met the Dallas Stars. The Stars were more of a
challenge then what the Red Wings was. But the Devil's was successful again
winning the series not hard and not all that easy 4-2 with a second Stanley Cup
Ring. In the 2003 playoffs the Devils in wake of being defeated in the 2002 EQF
by Carolina 4-2, came out with vengeance, first knocking off the Bruins in 5,
then the Tampa Bay Lightning in 5, with a big struggle against the Ottawa
Senators and beat them in 7, the Devils took the Stanley Cup in 7 games against
the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, making it their 3rd Cup in 9 years. Since then New
Jersey failed to get passed the Philadelphia Flyers in Rd 1 in 2004, than
managed to get a series victory against the NY Rangers in the quarter finals,
but were defeated by the surging Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Semis in 5
games. Now New Jersey looks onward to re-start their success in the 2006-07
season. In 1995 the state of Colorado would get their second shot at the NHL, they
would buy the old Quebec Nordiques and named the team the Colorado Avalanche.
The Avalanche went through the roof in their first season (1995-1996) they
didn't just made the playoffs but they incredibly won the Cup under the work of Patrick
Roy and Marc Crawford. Their attempts are now to try at every chance they get to
get another Cup Championship. In 2001 Colorado once again Raised the Cup, as Ray
Bourque finally completed the quest that took him over 20 years to achieve. The
Summer of 2003 goalie Patrick Roy called it a Career and on July 3rd the
Avalanche acquired as a 2 for 1 deal, Paul Kariya, and Teemu Selanne, and now
are relying on Goalie Abeisher from what Roy left behind. In the 2004 Playoffs
the Avs made quick work of the Dallas Stars in Round 1 in 5 games, but however
they were eliminated by another emerging team, this time at the hands of the San
Jose Sharks. The NHL Cancelled the 2005 Playoffs, and now the team looks to
rebuild its player structure for the 05-06 campaign. Once again the Avs made
quick work of the Stars in the first round in 5 games, in the next round however
it was much the same as back in '04, this time they faced The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim
and were shutout in the series, 2 games shorter than back in 2004 vs. San
Jose. Colorado will regroup and hope for another chance to improve next year
(2006-07).
