The North Stars
Story
In 1967 the next 6 teams would enter the
NHL to make it a 12 team league. These teams were: the St. Louis Blues,
Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota North Stars, Oakland Seals,
and the Los Angeles Kings. The Seals went down in the 1970's and in 1976 they
then became the Cleveland Barons. While the other teams was doing the Northstars
was putting up some good #'s. They were to get to the 1981 Stanley Cup finals
and sorry to say that the New York Islanders only took 5 games to defeat the
Northstars in a 4-1 series to get awarded the Stanley Cup the first in 4
straight seasons they won the cup. Again in 1991 the Minnesota Northstars were
up to the task again, this time they met the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Finals
then they went down to a 4-2 defeat for Pittsburgh to claim their first of 2
Cups in 1991 and 1992. Remembering the Cleveland Barons they didn't reach the
goals that they had hoped for in their first and second season of NHL action,
they only lasted for 2 seasons, 1976-1978 and then they finally merged with
Minnesota. But in 1993 things went from bad to worst as their owner (Norm Green)
decided to say goodbye to the Minnesota Northstars and moved them down to the
state of Texas and now known as the Dallas Stars. In 1999 the Dallas Stars
exploded they had most points in the standings in the league, things really did
got better. In this magical year the Stars reached the Finals again and didn't
went out with nothing, they went out with a BANG!!! The Stars met the Buffalo
Sabres in the finals and defeated them 4-2 in series with a Bret Hull confusing
goal the give the Minnesota/Dallas franchise their 1st ever Stanley Cup
championship. In the 2000 finals again they met the New Jersey Devil's
and with desperation they turned the cup over to the Devil's. Not bad for
starting off bad and kept on trying over the years to reach the ultimate goal,
turning from worst to excellent the Stars will never fear anything again.
Hockey returns to Minnesota for the second
time. This time they will be known as the Minnesota Wild. From the heart broken
Northstars comes the newly developed Wild. In the 2002-03 The Wild started of
with a big BANG, not only they exceeded in everyone's expectations of having a
winning season, but they proved to all that u don't need a all-star team to win.
Not only did they make the playoffs in fine fashion, but made some noise of
their own, first they knocked out the Colorado Avalanche in Rd 1 in 7 games,
then again being down 3-1 in the series to the Vancouver Canucks found a way to
bounce back and win the series. The Wild made it to the Conference Finals and to
play another Cinderella team, the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, who defeated the
Defending champs in 4 games in the first round. But unfortunately the Wild had
met their match to injuries and fell to the Ducks in 4 straight, but still the
Wild had proven themselves as a worthy opponent to others, and not to be taken
lightly by any means.
As for the Ducks well, NJ defeated them in 7 for the Stanley Cup. Minnesota
Hockey is back in the NHL alive and strong once again.
